Designing Devicebook Video Doorbell +
When designing the Video Doorbell + solution, you'll need to make a few important decisions.
The first is which set of devices you'd like to use to implement the solution: a single video doorbell device, or multiple distinct devices.
The second is whether you'd like to add any optional features.
Device Configuration Options
The Video Doorbell + solution can be installed with two device configurations:
1) All-In-One Video Doorbell: Install a single Video Doorbell device. This device will replace the home's existing doorbell, taking its place. Choose this option for quickest and simplest installation.
2) Traditional Doorbell with Motion Sensor and Camera: Install separate Camera, Motion Sensor, and Doorbell Sensor devices. Choose this option if you'd like to keep the home's existing traditional doorbell look and feel. In this situation, the Camera is used to allow real time view of the front door and communication with visitors. The Motion Sensor detects visitors. The Doorbell Sensor is wired into the doorbell or the chime, and detects when the doorbell has been rung.
Optional Feature Choices
When to use Lost Package Detection
Devicebook AI uses advanced smart home technology to detect when a package has been dropped off at the doorstep, and to raise an alert if a package is stolen. When a package may be stolen, Devicebook will play an automated message at the front door to ward off intruders.
Device Choices
See the Device Selection Guide for more information about the different communication protocols and recommendations on specific device models.
Installing Devicebook Video Doorbell +
Install smart all devices following the manufacturer's instructions. All such devices are generally wireless, so take care to reduce the number of obstacles between the devices and the Devicebook Hub (or the nearest repeater, in the case of Z-Wave). Metal enclosures and objects in particular can significantly reduce wireless communication quality.
When installing the Traditional Doorbell Set with Motion Sensor and Camera, take care to place motion sensors and cameras in optimal locations. Cameras should be placed in such a way that a visitor's face is clearly visible. Motion Sensors should be placed in such a way that only a visitor to the door should be detected, but not someone walking or driving by.
Setting Up & Testing Video Doorbell +
Use House Check to set up all the devices in the home.
To verify that the Video Doorbell + Solution has been installed properly:
1) Streaming & Real Time Communication: Use the Devicebook App to stream video from the front door. Verify that you can hear audio from the front door. Verify that when you use push-to-talk, someone standing at the front door can hear your voice.
2) Visitor Detection: Verify that when someone arrives at the doorstep, a visitor alert is raised from the Devicebook App.
3) Doorbell: Verify that when the doorbell is rung, a visitor alert is raised from the Devicebook App, if it wasn't already.
