Setting Up Ecobee Thermostats

Summary

Follow the device manufacturer's instructions to install the device(s) and set them up with the Ecobee App. Then, link Ecobee with Devicebook. Detailed instructions can be found below.

0. If you haven't already, Set Up the Devicebook Hub using House Check.

1. Disable the Devicebook Hub's Firewall

If the Ecobee Thermostats have already been linked to an Ecobee account, and are connected to a Wi-Fi network, you can skip ahead to step 4.

In House Check, find the tile for the Devicebook Hub, and then tap the button to disable the Hub's Firewall. 

2. Connect your mobile device to the Devicebook Hub's Wi-Fi Network

Use the credentials provided on the page in Step 1 to connect your mobile phone or tablet to the Devicebook Hub's Wi-Fi Network.

3. Set Up Each Ecobee Thermostat device using the Ecobee app

Sign in to the Ecobee app on your mobile phone or tablet. Note that this account will have ownership of the thermostats in the Ecobee cloud, so choose the email address and password accordingly.

Once signed in, follow the manufacturer's instructions to install and set up each device to connect to the Devicebook Hub's Wi-Fi Network. The Wi-Fi credentials can be found in the Devicebook Hub's page in the Devicebook App.

4. Authenticate the Devicebook Home Controller with the Ecobee Cloud

In the Devicebook App, in House Check, find the option to link the Home Controller to the Ecobee Cloud Bridge.

Follow the instructions to authorize Devicebook to access the Ecobee thermostat devices. Once again, be sure to use the Ecobee account that has ownership of the devices in the Ecobee app.

5. Link each device to the Devicebook Smart Home

One by one, find each device's tile in House Check, and link it to Devicebook by tapping its "Set Up" button, and following the instructions.

6. Re-Enable the Devicebook Hub's Firewall.

In House Check, in the Devicebook App, navigate back to the Devicebook Hub's tile, and tap the button to ensure the Hub's Firewall is enabled again.

7. Disconnect your mobile phone or tablet from the Devicebook Hub's Wi-Fi Network.

Switch your phone or tablet back to the network you had it connected to before beginning these steps.

Troubleshooting

Q. The Ecobee Thermostat is not appearing as a candidate in House Check

A. First, make sure the device appears in the Ecobee app, and that you are able to control the device from the Ecobee app. If it does not, delete the device from the Ecobee app, and follow the manufacturer's instructions to factory reset the device. Then, follow the manufacturer's instructions to set up the device again. When you are able to control the device from the Ecobee app again, follow the instructions above to link Ecobee with Devicebook again.
